PhotoTips

Here are a few photo tips that may help you. Best of all, come to the museum Photography Made Simple Workshops and learn first hand from a professional photographer. Check out the Calendar Page for the next workshop, and don't forget to bring your camera.

1. Always have your camera at the ready with the batteries fully charged, plus carry with you one or two spare empty memory cards, or fresh film (if you have a film camera).

2. Check to see if the lens is clean. Clean only with a very clean soft photo cloth, plus a small amount of lens cleaning fluid. Much better by far, protect your lenses by fitting a UV (ultra violet), or sky filter on the front of the lens.

3. Check the camera settings before you start, and decide which one works for your photo situation. If in doubt, use the auto mode.

4. Use a lens hood, which will help stop lens flare, unless you like the effect.

5. Try to anticipate a photo moment, and have your camera at the ready. Press slightly down on the trigger to activate your camera. This will save on the lag time that occurs on many point-and-shoot cameras.

6. Ask yourself what you wish to achieve before you take the photo, and make that your goal.
